Year–end banquet kicks off 20th year celebration for Route 20 Road Challenge

Year–end banquet kicks off 20th year celebration for Route 20 Road Challenge

The banquet capping off the 2018 season for the Route 20 Road Challenge also signaled
the start of the 20th year for the popular running series in 2019.
The event was held at Hotel Solsville, Solsville on Saturday, February 23. Around thirty enthusiasts attended the event where awards were given out to over twenty runners.
Road Challenge coordinator Craig North presented a short history of the series which began in the year 2000. The series ties together a number of small town running events ranging from 5k’s to a half-marathon, from Esperance to Nelson, east and west, and Rome to Cooperstown, north and south. Its format is unique in the running world and those who participate in a certain number of events earn recognition in awards ranging from gift cards to the past year’s top prize, an Under Armor running shirt.
Runners completing the challenge this year (at least nine races of the nineteen on the schedule) included Mary Pustay, Phillip Metzger, Kevin Hoehn, Craig North, Elizabeth Fish, Terri Woodford, Sarah Law, Jean Kosina, Susan Will, JoAnne Securra, Courtney Spatto, Alex Gifford, Joy Gifford, Jessica Powers, Alexis Lefever, Chris Lefever, Amy Markowicz, Jennifer Caloia, Ralph Rathbun, Amy Rathbun, and Patricia King.
Co-coordinator Bill Kosina introduced the runners and also presented the new-thisyear Most Improved Runner award to Sarah Rathbun.
‘Goodwill ambassador’ Kevin Hoehn presented this year’s Kermit Award to Terri Woodford of Oxford. In the presentation, he cited the award’s namesake, the late Kermit Cadrette who began running in his sixties and was such a positive influence on runners of all ages.
Major sponsors for the Road Challenge include Hotel Solsville; Pierce Auto Parts, Bouckville; and Stewart’s Shops.
This year’s schedule is close to completion and will include around twenty races.
Prizes for runners finishing at different levels this year will include gift certificates and a special runner’s duffel bag will go to the top participants. ATTENTION ALL RUNNERS - A SPECIAL ROUTE 20 RUNNING RELAY OFFER (JUST FOR YOU !!!!)

108 mile RELAY RUN

ATTENTION ALL RUNNERS - A SPECIAL ROUTE 20 RUNNING RELAY OFFER (JUST FOR YOU !!!!)

The N.Y. Route 20 Association is celebrating 20 years as an association and 20 years of Road Challenge Races! To commemorate this milestone, the Route 20 Association is promoting a very special event. On August 17th, 2019, we are having a 108 mile RELAY RUN. We will start early in the morning with runners covering approximately 3 mile segments, some a little more and some a little less.

We will have runners start from Duanesburg and from Lafayette, and work towards the approximate midway point of West Winfield.

We will be covering the entire NY Route 20 stretch of road, from Duanesburg in the east to Lafayette in the west, we will have a celebration at Cleaver’s BBQ in West Winfield NY! If you are joining us for dinner, we need to have $5/person. This helps us with making sure that we can accommodate everyone as well as helping out in defraying some of the cost of the food and banquet room!

There is no cost to participate, but due the fact that this is a celebration and we are promoting Route 20 at the same time, we ask that you buy a special edition Route 20 running shirt (cost will be approximately $10).  The idea behind the shirt is to help with promotion of the event and to advertise the Route 20 Association.  We hope to gain lots of media coverage!!!

Understand, this is not a race, more like a training run!!!! The idea is to sign up for a segment or two and help us celebrate the day, the association, and the wonderful things that Route 20 has to offer!

How to sign up? Super easy, just e-mail Bill Kosina at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. You can also message me on facebook!   Please give me your name, your contact information, and an area that you like to cover (examples: Bridgewater, Esperance) and your training pace (ex: 10 min/mile) and special considerations (Examples: love the hills, hate the hills)

Please remember, Route 20 has MANY HILLS, both ascending and descending!! I will do the best I can to accommodate your requests. Yes, runners can request to run together as well!!

Craig North and I will do our best to get the running relay segments mapped out as soon as we can.  So the game plan will be that you give me a thumbs up and when we have the map done, we can get it out for you!  Then you can pick your segment!  We can have multiple people running the same section, just need to make sure that we have at least one person for each!

We need your shirt order (money included) and food money (if joining us) by July 20th!

THIS IS AN EXCITING TIME FOR THE NY ROUTE 20, PLEASE CONSIDER BEING PART OF THIS SPECIAL EVENT. REMEMBER, 20 YEARS ONLY COMES ONCE!!!!!!!!

Believe 271 5K Run/Walk

July 27th, 2019

5th Annual Believe 271 5K run/walk. This event is to help raise money for the Believe 271 Foundation. This foundation was founded in February 2014 to raise money for an Oneida County Fire Coordinator Car 271, Brian McQueen who was fighting a battle with cancer. He graciously turned down this money in hopes that it would start and grow a foundation to help other firefighters who also have taken ill. This foundation has helped to date 50 men and women that have become ill. The Bridgewater Fire Company is taking all proceeds from this event and donating them to the Believe 271 Foundation to help them help other firefighters and ladies auxiliary members that have become ill.

This 5k run/walk is an out and back race on Route 8 in Bridgewater. It will start and end at the Town Park in Bridgewater. This is a timed race. Timing will be done by the Clarks Sports Center. There will be a water station at the turn around point. There will also be water and snacks available at the end of the race.

Early registration will guarantee you a t-shirt. Early registration will end July 10, 2019 for t-shirts. You can register online at believe2715k.itsyourrace.com There you can also print out registration forms and waivers and mail them to:
Christy DeKing
PO Box 167
Bridgewater, NY 13313
There will also be registration and packet pick up the day of the run, from 7 am to 8:30 am.

12th Annual RANGER RUN 5K

Sunday, July 28th, 2019

Join us for the 12th annual RANGER RUN 5K at the Great American Irish Festival! Come for the race...and stay for the music! Join us this year at a new time: 8:30 a.m. on SUNDAY, July 28th at the Herkimer County Fairgrounds. You'll actually be running 3.115 miles (instead of the 3.1 mile 5K that you're used to!). Wait, what!? You want me to run further than an actual 5K?! YES! That is because this race is dedicated to Trooper Tim Sullivan who passed away in 2007 while out on a run. Tim's shield number was 3115, and this race length honors him with an extra 0.015 miles.
